ABOUT

Agustin Rosso was born in Mendoza, Argentina in 1982. His first approach to violin making began as a hobby when he was 15 years old. He started building electric guitars and plucked string instruments. Later, in 2001, he attended Violin Making School at the Nacional University of Tucuman (Universidad Nacional de Tucuman) until 2003. Then, he returned to his hometown, where he continued studying and improving his practices on his own. There he set to working formally on plucked string and bowed string instruments, focusing on Baroque and Modern plucked string instruments since 2005. In 2010, he specialized in Modern bowed string instruments and took personalized courses on building and restoring bowed instruments at his workshop with Horacio Piñeiro, a well-known specialist in the matter.

He currently specializes in making and restoring bowed instruments (violins, violas and cellos); mostly upon request. To date, he has built more than 200 instruments (more than 95 violins, 60 violas, 32 cellos and barroque instruments such as Gamba Viola family) for different local orchestra musicians (the Mendoza Philharmonic and Symphonic, the Salta and Bahia Blanca Orchestras, the Colon Theater Philharmonic and Permanent Orchestras, etc.), as well as for foreign orchestra musicians, such as the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra (Germany), the Mainz Philharmonic Orchestra (Germany), the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (South Korea), the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (Israel), and orchestra musicians and ensembles from New York (USA), Switzerland and France; among others.

In addition to his passion and dedication to the making of musical instruments, Agustin has always been inclined to teaching and sharing knowledge with those who show a real interest in learning about the art of instrument making.
